Cockroaches are vectors of diseases such as dysentery, gastroenteritis, typhoid, and poliomyelitis. Their diet is omnivorous and includes fermenting substances, soiled dressings, hair, leather, wallpaper, and their own and other feces as well as food for human consumption.
The latter may be contaminated either by the mechanical transfer of causative agents of disease from the insect’s body or by transmissions in the feces. Cockroaches can also cause allergic reactions especially amongst sensitive individuals e.g. asthmatics.
Cockroaches breed at an alarming rate the Ootheca (egg case) of a German cockroach (Blattella germanica) will hold between 30-48 young. These young (nymphs) will reach sexual maturity after approximately ten weeks.
German cockroaches are a well-known indoor cockroach with a distribution which is world-wide. Adults are easily recognized by their light brown or tan coloration with two black horizontal stripes located on their back, they grow up to 13-16 mm. adolescent cockroaches (or nymphs) are darker, almost black in color, but still, have the black stripes behind the head.
For many years insecticidal sprays and contact dust were the only way to control cockroach infestations. Such pest control treatments for cockroaches rely on the insects coming into direct contact with the insecticide. As such small colonies of pests are often missed due to them being deep-seated in building fabrics, equipment etc. Experience has taught us that, due to increasing overuse of sprays and insufficient pesticide rotation, genetic resistance has occurred in many areas.
Pest Solutions technicians are trained in a new concept of pest control treatment for cockroaches. We use a variety of gel baits, which provide an actual food source for the pests. This makes the treatments extremely effective. Although gel baits have been available to the industry for several years in their different forms, few companies have invested the necessary time and field research to fulfil their potential.
Pest Solutions UK Limited are now able to carry out complete eradication programs, something that few other pest control companies can offer in the extermination of cockroaches.
